Reno's Story

I was born in the Lanakila area and grew up moving between neighborhoods, spending much of my teenage years in downtown Honolulu and Kalihi, particularly in and around Mayor Wright Homes. Those early experiences were not always easy, but they instilled in me resilience, accountability, and a deep appreciation for the importance of stability and opportunity.

Having experienced firsthand the challenges many working families face, I understand the pressures of making ends meet and the uncertainty young people can encounter when searching for direction. That lived experience shapes my commitment to practical solutions that strengthen our community.

I am a proud father of two sons and an alumni of McKinley High School as well as the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Shidler College of Business. After earning my degree, I spent 10 years with IBM, managing large-scale technology projects across the United States and Asia. While I gained valuable professional experience abroad, Hawaiʻi has always been home.

Upon returning home, I dedicated myself to serving our community. Over the past 15 years, I have held leadership roles in telecommunications, healthcare, human services, and insurance. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I chose to serve at The Institute for Human Services, where I gained deeper insight into the realities of homelessness and addiction affecting our district.

For nearly a decade, I have also led Kakaʻako Boxing Club, mentoring young people and helping build discipline, confidence, and opportunity. This work keeps me closely connected to the needs of our youth and families.

My journey reflects perseverance, growth, and a commitment to service. I am running for State Representative because I believe our district deserves leadership grounded in experience, accountability, and a genuine understanding of our community’s challenges.

I respectfully ask for your support and your vote. Together, we can build a safer, stronger future for District 28.
